» The Review!

The 3rd and final disk of KO Beast is upon us, worry not, these last two episodes are by far the best in the series so far…

Right off the start, we’re presented with a fierce three way batter between our heroes, SP Icegirl and V-Darn and V-ison -- All for Yuni. Like most battles we’ve seen, this ends with some humours results. However SP Icegirl ends up running off with Yuni, just to discover her deep dark secret. The disk ends up raping this story off rather nicely, however its done way too quickly. All the interesting bits of the story, gets revealed all at once in once episode. While its good that they did get around to revealing it (I’ve seen some series that never got around to tying up the lose ends) I think KO Beast would have been a lot more interesting if this bit of info had been revealed about two or three episodes earlier. I we got rather interested in what the whole back-story was about and why our heroes are really on this quest… but once everything was said and done, we didn’t get that much into it since we knew this was going to all over in a few minutes. Oh well, at least the final battle was worth the wait.

The video has improved quite a bit from the first volume, which was plagued with several problems. From start to finish, the video is crystal clear with no problems. We finally get to see how this is supposed to look, on the greatness that is DVD; in fact, I think this disk looks the best out of them all.

I have much more to say about the audio however. Having both tracks released in 2.0 stereo, there wasn’t anything to get excited about. It seems somewhat clear, but most of the sounds played from all speakers. We skipped over listening to the English track this time around, mainly because of the funny stuff Bud has a tendency to say. But overall, the Japanese audio sounded great.

The extras were about the same as the last one such as, in-depth character bios, outtakes, which are funny as hell I might add. Translation notes, the original openings, trailers (Which should be mandatory for all DVDs) and the Art Gallery… which I was kind of disappointed with. Seeing how you couldn’t scroll through it your self. But they were lots of pictures to look at, and a nice song playing in the background. The menu designs weren't too shady either, with great animations and quick and easy access.

As I mentioned in the last review, the only people that should be even thinking of grabbing this series, are the fans that we exposed to this back in the day. Despite the fact that from start to finish, this had been a very amusing series, much of the humour just might not work out for some people out there. At best, this series for those people is a brief watch at a friend’s house. Bottom line, you shouldn’t lose any sleep for not grabbing it… unless the word “KO Beast” meant something to you some 5-10 years ago.
