» The Review!

Time for another injection of KO Beast which comes just at the right time, since I found my self going back to the first volume several times since my review. This time around, we get only two episodes, but with the stuff that goes on here, taking this series a little bit at a time would be quite good on the brain.

As I mentioned there is only two episodes here. But with in those two episodes the story starts to turn around to be much more interesting. Our heroes find them selves in need of major repairs for their Jinns after so many battles with the Humans. And only one person can do that, Don the Repairer from Atlas City! Things are fine, until V-Darn makes his move in order to regain respect from his higher ups. Our heroes didn’t quite enjoy this seeing how they are now unarmed. Needless to say, there’s a new episode, which means V-Darn fails (Again) after the tables turn on him, and V-Darn is the unarmed one. Just when things were looking up, Mei-Mer becomes ill, to the point she believe she wont live much longer. During this time, we’re introduced to some new villains and some other crazy antics that we’ve come to expect after watching the last disk. I do have to admit, this volume has provided much more laughs than the first. Some of the characters looks also slightly changed… well more so with the clothing with Mei-Mer and Yuni. I figured it was worth noting here.

The video has improved quite a bit from the last volume, which was plagued with several problems. From start to finish, the video is crystal clear with no problems. We finally get to see how this is supposed to look, on the greatness that is DVD.

I have much more to say about the audio however. Having both tracks released in 2.0 stereo, there wasn’t anything to get excited about. It seems somewhat clear, but most of the sounds played from all speakers. We skipped over listening to the English track this time around, manly because of the funny stuff Bud has a tendency to say. But overall, the Japanese audio sounded great.

The extras on this totally blew me away. There’s so many such as, in depth character bios, outtakes, which are funny as hell I might add. Translation notes, the original openings, trailers (Which should be mandatory for all DVDs) and the Art Gallery… which I was kind of disappointed with. Seeing how you couldn’t scroll through it your self. But they were lots of pictures to look at, and a nice song playing in the background. The menu designs weren't too shady either, with great animations and quick and easy access.

The overall this release improves on the issues with video, while the story seems to be getting much more exciting. With only one my disk left, I can’t wait to see how this will finish in the end. As well as checking out what other crazy things that can be tossed at us. However, since there is only two episodes on this, which is quite small by some people’s standards, I can’t recommend this to everyone. Those that already have the previous release… or those planning to get it, while at the same time, enjoyed this series -- Should keep an eye out for this –- If the first volume didn’t win you over, I doubt this will.
