» The Review!

Another disk and another speculator anime comes to an end. And while it doesn’t exactly go out with a “bang.” The whole experience overall was worth the effort… for the most part.

The series raps up by delivering the last final 4 episodes. Yukino, finally chooses to do the play that she wasn’t all for at first. It seems Arima Kendo practising changed her mind when she stood and watched him work so hard for the first time. Shortly after that, a rush to get everything going for the play is set in motion. Tonami makes way for his plans for revenge against Sakura. Things only get a bit confusing from here when a recap episode is thrown in, followed by an episode dedicated to Kano. About the only thing amusing about this episode, was the light Shoujo-Ai elements. The directing overall for this disk was great. It brings a whole new meaning to the word “Staying true to the manga,” especially in the last episode. However my only beef, with this, was the way it ended, the overall story was left with a few unanswered questions. Mostly because the manga is still in progress, therefore the series didn’t exactly end with full and total closure. It would have been nice if they rapped it up in away that would bring some closure, even if it meant veering away from the manga a bit.

The video for this disk is okay, this series continues to show it's age however. The video is not 100% crisp and clear, and there’s faint graininess that can be seen all over. Furthermore, there are some points were some aliasing popped up, but it doesn’t last long. Other than that, there is nothing else wrong, which is good, we can’t have a great series like this spoiled by even more imperfections in the video.

I enjoyed the audio quite a bit, just a about zero problems here. Everything plays nice and clear, for both English and Japanese audio in its 2.0 mix. I didn’t really listen to the English dub this time around, but from the previous disks, I would imagine that it still sounds great with the voice actors doing a great job.

As with the pervious releases, the menus are just as great as the feature is. Such as the greatness of the soft subs that are placed throughout the disk translating some of the on screen texts, the option to remove on screen text (And there’s a lot of that.) is also thrown in. Continuing on, we get access to the other parts of the disk, like the episode selection, which leads to the chapter stops and whatnot. The animation in the back ground also looks great and adds to the proof that Right Stuf had a lot of work put into this. Plus the opening and endings have alternative angles, so you can have the option of viewing it with the Japanese logos or the English ones.

Nice to see that finally some one out there is utilizing the full power of DVD technology.

Moving onto the extras, we have the more amusing ones seen in this series. The extras consist of the usual Translator notes and interviews. English VA outtakes from the episode previews… something that has proven to waste my mind after watching it over and over. Phone Messages from the characters answering machines, another amusing bit. The US His and Her, trailer and the other stuff we’ve seen already, such as Right Stuf previews and the DVD Credits.

Like all good things, His and Her Circumstances comes to an end. However, despite this series being as great as it is, it left me with an empty feeling. After all that watching, nothing majorly spectator ends the series off, it’s like watching a movie with no climax. At times like this, I’m glad the manga series is being released here, because this is the only place now to receive a final conclusion to this. Oh well, it was still a wonderful experience from start to finish. Certainly recommended to all anime fans.
