From the Right Stuf International, the company that brought you HIS AND HER CIRCUMSTANCES comes a hilarious new series that parodies the entire Anime/Manga industry! With direction by Norihiko Sudo (Assistant Director - CASTLE IN THE SKY) and scripts by Hiroshi Yamaguchi (NADESICO / GATEKEEPERS 21)!

Is destiny finally at hand? It's time for the biggest convention of the year: Comic Party! All of Kazuki's scrimping and saving, hard work and planning are about to be put to the test. Kazuki's never been this fired up before, and he's certain that he's drawn the perfect comic. All that's left is to sell it to the legions of otaku! It's the next big step toward world domination for The Two Brothers! But... why isn't Taishi celebrating?

Meanwhile, Mizuki may not like Kazuki's new hobby, but she's still trying to be supportive. When her surprise appearance at Comic Party goes terribly wrong, Mizuki is determined to get his mind off of fan comics for awhile. With the warm summer weather, that means a trip to the beach! More than ever, she wants to show him that there's more to life than just comics, but all Kazuki can think about is what happened at Comic Party. Will Kazuki ever return to normal?

Join the Comic Party, and follow Kazuki as his journey takes him through the steps to becoming a master fan comic author - while spoofing everything along the way! From GUNDAM to EVANGELION, from INITIAL D to WEDDING PEACH; if it's part of the anime world, it's all fair game!

Contains episodes 7-9.

» The Review!

I’m running out of words to slap up in this section… must be the after effect of Comic Party.

Right at the start Kazuki heads to set up his section in Comic Party. Things go well as he gets products in. However… he’s about to learn a very valuable lesson when it comes to quality insurance… and how to march on when it hits the fan, now the real drama begins.

The next few episodes deals with Kazuki trying to apply some damage control, Mizuki as always is there by his side, not that he notices. This episode was done in a rather interesting way, where it jumps back and forth, from the end of the con to what happens afterwards, being the two of them at the beach. I really shouldn’t be saying anything more, some very important plot points come up here. However, like I said earlier, the series seems to be taking a more serious and emotional approach to things.

Speaking of parodies, the packaging alone is loaded with them. The cover’s were printed in the traditional manga style… in other words it opens backwards. Of course they’re revisable, so if you want to open it the “right” way you can. Upon opening the cover you be exposed to even more parodies, being the insert…

Yep, Right Stuf went all out to enhance what the series is famous for, as well as the world of doujinshi. Another great thing about the insert is the list of some of the parodies you’ll find while watching this, great guide indeed.

Well the packaging work here seems to be fine, but how do the menus work? Quite well in fact. At first they seem a bit motionless, until we glance our eyes on an image of one of the characters being sketched right there on the screen! It was certainly a mind blowing experience, likely one of the most creative menus I’ve seen in a very long time. The opening song also plays out in the background as well, giving it more of a nice feel, since there really isn’t anything else going on. All the other menus get your standard treatment here, nothing special, but access to everything you’d expect.

And the extras? Dear good, they’re wonderful, consisting of an Art Gallery of character sketches, Character bios, translator notes explaining certain things in the series. An interview with some of the Japanese voice actors, which proves to be just as funny as the series is. Oh yes, and the Special Mini episode #3, packed with even more laughs.

I don’t have much to say about the video, it’s more or less prefect for something that was released about… what? 3 years ago? None the less, everything here is in nice order. Same can be said about the audio, in its typical 2.0 Mix. Nothing objectionable noted here, well the English track does sound a bit better quality wise mind you. Speaking of the English track, the dub here was done rather well.

This short but sweet adventure is coming to a close soon, and it’s already off to a good end. Needless to say whenever I talk this highly of an anime from the first DVD to the last (okay we’re not there just yet) It’s something that is recommended to all.
