» Description

A hilarious new series that parodies the entire Anime/Manga industry! With direction by Norihiko Sudo (Assistant Director – CASTLE IN THE SKY) and scripts by Hiroshi Yamaguchi (NADESICO / GATEKEEPERS 21)!

The path to destiny is unfolding! Kazuki has created his very first fan comic, and they're on their way to world conquest, but there's just one minor hitch in Taishi's glorious plan: it's expensive to print comics, and now they're out of money!

Taishi, being his usual self, has already solved the problem - he found Kazuki a part-time job! Our hapless artist ends up trekking out to Akihabara, Tokyo's famous electronics district, to become a waiter at a new cafe called "Cosmix". The job seems innocent enough (coming from someone like Taishi), but why are there Steel Angel Kurumi cosplayers outside the cafe...?

Yet even as one problem is solved, another appears! With all the time he's been spending on comics and his new job, Kazuki's grades are plummeting. The way things are going, he'll have to choose between good grades or fan comics... Will Kazuki throw away a future career for his newfound hobby? Or is Taishi’s dream of ruling the world about to go up in smoke?

Join the Comic Party, and follow Kazuki as his journey takes him through the steps to becoming a master fan comic author - while spoofing everything along the way! From GUNDAM to EVANGELION, from INITIAL D to WEDDING PEACH; if it's part of the anime world, it's all fair game!

Contains episodes 4-6.

» The Review!

Another luscious release of Comic Party is here, and like the last one, it failed not impress us!

Kazuki is still amazed at the fact that he sold some comics… sadly…. It isn’t enough to break even… yup after his first run he’s already in debt. What’s a student in a position like this supposed to do? -- Get a part-time job and use the pay to cover ones costs… And what better place to get a job than at a… cosplay café. (Why can’t we have some of these over here?) Needless to say room for some very funny moments open up as when Mizuyik discovers this. Remember she still doesn't like him getting more involved with the anime world. Strangely enough Taishi insists that he works there… all for one reason. So that they can end up going to the ultimate convention… cleverly titled Comic Party. Surprisingly he hasn’t been fired… with the commotion Mizukyi caused… and then there’s the two trouble makers.

The next problem on their list? Studying… after all working on a comic, doing a part-time job and keeping ones grades up… isn’t every easy. And staying good friends with Mizuyki? That by the end of this disk has proven to be a lost cause; okay maybe I’m being a bit harsh, there is some success.

However this disk wasn’t all that funny compared to the last, however the information conveyed is very realistic. This seems to be more of the “How things are run” Arc of the series, interesting stuff nonetheless.

Speaking of parodies, the packaging along is loaded with them. The cover’s were printed in the traditional manga style… in other words it opens backwards. Of course they’re revisable, so if you want to open it the “right” way you can. Upon opening the cover, you be exposed to even more parodies, being the insert…

Yep, Right Stuf went all out to enhance what the series is famous for, as well as the world of doujinshi. Another great thing about the insert is the list of some of the parodies you’ll find while watching this, great guide indeed.

Well the packaging work here seems to be fine, but how do the menus work? Quite well in fact. At first they seem a bit motionless, until we glance our eyes on an image of one of the characters being sketched right there on the screen! It was certainly a mind blowing experience, likely one of the most creative menus I’ve seen in a very long time. The opening song also plays out in the background as well, giving it more of a nice feel, since there really isn’t anything else going on. All the other menus get your standard treatment here, nothing special, but access to everything you’d expect.

And the extras? Dear good, they are wonderful, consisting of an Art Gallery of character sketches, Character bios, and translator notes explaining certain things in the series. An interview with some of the Japanese voice actors, which proves to be just as funny as the series is. Oh yes, and the Special Mini episode #2, packed with even more laughs.

I don’t have much to say about the video, it’s more or less prefect for something that was released about… what? 3 years ago? None the less, everything here is in nice order. Same can be said about the audio, in its typical 2.0 Mix. Nothing objectionable noted here, well the English track does sound a bit better quality wise mind you. Speaking of the English track, the dub here was done rather well.

Though this proved to be a quick romp in this 13 episode series, I have not yet found a reason not to enjoy it. Clearly Right Stuf has yet another brilliant title on their hands. Can’t wait to watch the rest.
