Continuing on with another
volume of BeyBlade, we’re left with a better feeling overall about
this series, in comparison to the last volume. Which isn’t saying
much.
Our story continues with
Tyson and the gang teaming up to from a BeyBlade team known as the
BeyBreakers. And they are sent into China to battle in the Asian
tournament as a team. This of course gets things a bit hot, when
Kai is named the team leader, Kai being “Mr. I don’t need any
help.” Is not too much of a team player. Things also start getting
interesting when we learn of Ray’s secret past with a local
BeyBlading team in the area. It seems he was once one of them… and
now they hate him. Overall, the story in terms of plot structure
is starting to get a bit exciting. However, that’s just about it
really; all 5 episodes on this disc seem to have gotten very
repetitive. We get some story, and then go to a bunch of blade
battles, which just drags on. And when that battle is over?
ANOTHER ONE STARTS! Some of these battles are just very pointless, if you
were to edit out some of scenes from them. You would likely not
miss much of the story.
Well at least the video
doesn’t interfere with everything. It’s more or less decent,
there’s a few issues, nothing big. Just some aliasing here and
there and an overall less than perfect video transfer. Other than
that, I saw no other problems with the video. The audio is your
standard stereo mix, with most of the sound coming from the
center. Nothing really special here. I guess there is no point
about complaining about the lack of a Japanese audio track. It’s
quite clear we will not be seeing one for this anytime soon.
Needless to say, I had to sit through the English dub, which
hasn’t really improved from the last release. Same so-so voices.
Oh well.
One nice about this disc
that the last one didn’t have is, extras! The last volume… we had
no extras what so ever, now we have a nice selection of extras from
Character Profiles, Pioneer previews and TV ad spots. Well the ads
are more like advertising to get people to by the toys related to
this series. Nice job on the marketing department’s part. Overall,
some good stuff here.
The menus here are kind of
a let down, sure on the outside they look nice and have easy
access to everything -- Even the transitions look good. However,
the chapter stops are absolutely bad. Basically, they start at the
start of an episode; from there you can skip the opening and jump
into the episode. And the next stop would be the next episode. If
you wanted to jump to another part of an episode, you’ll have to
make use of the fast-forward button. I cannot really remember if
the last disc was like that. (Moreover, I am far too lazy to go
back and check.) But the fact that you cannot even skip to the
middle of an episode is somewhat bad. I would expect this from
older DVDs, but not stuff being released today.
Overall, there really
isn’t anything more to say about this, yes I enjoyed this more
than the last. But it’s still not doing anything for me in
particular. Once this disk came to an end… I was glad, and I
really don’t have any plans to put it back in my DVD player. Don’t
get me wrong, this is just me… a person that’s not included in
this series market. It’s a great buy for kids, but for adults? Or
even someone younger than an adult? This doesn’t seem to be
working. |
