That is right, yet another
show that has helped sell an extravagantly amount of merchandise
is about to hit DVD. This of course being BeyBlades, which has
gotten quite a bit of attention… from kids as it has been shown on TV
for quite some time.
I will not go into too
much details as to what BeyBlades are… we have all stood in line
for an hour to get them at Wal-Mart over the holidays. Seen them
on YTV up in Canada, or ABC in the US. Besides there is not much
to them… there tops well, modified ones at least, used to battle
other people’s. Enter Tyson, who has found himself, rather quickly
I might add. Battling in a massive tournament, in order to beat
one of the world’s best bladders out there named Kai, overall
though it’s nothing special really. Although I do have to admit I
am, somewhat interested in finding out how this tournament ends...
I do not think you need to know any more than that; chances are
you have already seen it on TV already.
This will work out nicely
for kids… but for the die-hard anime fan, or just an older
audience. This release will fall short of one’s expectations.
Everything just moves so fast, leaving no room for character
development. Don’t get me wrong, there is some, I just felt it
could have been better. The overall animation was not bad, but it
is far from being something that would make anyone want to come back for some
more just to see it again.
There's other
disappointments I have also discovered while viewing this, one,
the lack of a Japanese Audio track. I had figured we would get the
same treatment that Cardcaptor got from Pioneer. After all the
Press Release did mention that it was going to contain the
Japanese track, and it did mention something on the back of the
package. Okay not really on the back, it just says “English
Subtitles” which many people these days might regard it as
Japanese with English subs. Personally, if there is only an
English dub, why would English subtitles need to be put on the
disk? Unless I am missing something here, however I am quite
confident I am not, having checked all the available audio options
and found nothing in the set up menu as well.
Speaking of menus, the
designs for this are not all that bad, they look rather decent. Too
bad, this disk lacks any type of extras what so ever, which is
disappointment number two. Well that makes this section of the
review easy to write. This release also comes with five episodes,
plus a bonus episode, bringing it up to a total of six episodes.
Both the audio and video,
like the menus are also sufficient, I found no problems with it
all. Making them likely the only perfect thing on this DVD.
Needless to say, this
release really is something that should be in the hands of those
that love this series, missed the first few episodes, or do not
feel like recording them from TV. In other words, the people this
was marketed for, children ages 10-12 should have this. If you are more on the
hardcore anime side, you will find this will have a very short
shelf life. |
