The Review! |

Having watched the whole volume of the first Agent Aika DVD all at
once, you would think I would have learned my lesson by not
watching the entire 2nd DVD in one night as well… But I didn’t,
and once again my brain has turned into almost nothing after the
hundreds of panty shots. In Agent Aika: Final Battle, we see the
conclusion of the fan service galore OVA. Which to this day I’m
still trying to figure out what the writers were thinking when
they made this. The three episodes on this are basically Hargen
forces, well what’s left of them. Trying to get revenge on Aika
for stopping his plans of world domination. Each episode is more
or less them trying to trap her. Then that trap fails, and they
try again in the next episode. And of course the panties come
along with that. I do have to admit, everything they do to get
Aika is rather amusing, like driving a tank up and down through a
resort hotel. A RESORT HOTEL!! And Aika being seduced by a man…
That’s really a woman!
Like the last DVD, the story is almost on the pointless side, they
brought in more a few new characters… not that we know too much
about them. (Seriously who the hell is this Michikusa character,
and why is he such a dingus?) Again, everything seems to be rushed
focusing very little on the cast. To be totally honest I was quite
disappointed in how it all ended. Not to spoil anyone, but let’s
just say you can tell that it was originally planned to have a
better and longer ending… Well it should have at least. I don’t
know, it just left me upset, despite the story being rather weak
to being with.
The voice acting did improve since the last release for the
English dub, which isn’t saying much. Either that or the panty
shots started to mess with my brain… well what’s left of it from
the last volume. But some of the voices have improved since the
last release which is a plus; especially if you have the problems
that I had with this disc, playing it on a PC. (This will be
explained in the next paragraph.)
Like the last release, the video seemed more or less good. No
major problems detected, just what you’d expect. The audio is a
mixed bag however; the English track I found to sound a bit better
than the Japanese audio track, well audio quality at least. As we
all know the dub is quite poor. It seems that the Japanese audio
sounds like it was being played inside a can or something. It just
did not sound right. However, there is one small technical problem
I did encounter, while trying to play this disc in my PC; I found
most of the sub titles did not display right, more like they did
not display at all! Not sure what caused this, or if it would
happen in other systems. This would indeed force one to watch this
dubbed. Just something I thought I should point out.
The extras however are much better than the last disc, other than
the typical sneak peaks and meet the characters spot. We have the
original clean textiles opening and closing, as well as he
original Japanese commercials. Menus are just the same like the
list disc as well, looking decent but at the same time could have
been a tad bit better. Other than that, the extras are well done
this time around.
Once again, we have another anime series that focuses more on fan
service and little on story and characters. As such, a series like
this should only be watched for just that fan service, or if you
already picked up the first volume of Agent Aika. Because in that
case you might as well complete the series by grabbing this… its
just other disc anyways. |
